I have been playing geoguessr for quite a while and have a pro subscription myself, and because I really enjoy the game, I recently introduced my parents to it too, and they were having a lot of fun playing against each other and learning new stuff on the infinity challenge game mode, but now that is not possible anymore. The infinity challenge game mode was basically the only game mode they played because they only played geoguessr from mobile, and the "main" mobile game mode just gets super repetitive after a little while, but that is a whole other topic. I completely understand and even support keeping certain features paid to support development and reduce cheating, especially in game modes where players are matched against other random players from around the world. But locking a previously free, friend vs friend only game mode behind a subscription feels unfair and discouraging. It is simply unreasonable to have to pay for 2 additional subscriptions only for us to be able to play a single mobile version game mode against each other. I'm sure that my situation isn't unique, there are very likely many more families and friend groups that will simply stop playing geoguessr completely because of this change, so I really hope the decision to make this a paid feature can be reconsidered.
