Here's the latest updates and fixes that have happened during June.
It's summer time and with vacations for various teams just around the corner, patch notes may be a little less frequent, but will be resumed full force after the summer months. However, we will continue you to keep you updated on any major changes.
Singleplayer
- Game breakdown screen now let’s you zoom in on each round’s result by clicking Round name or Total for full view.
- Improved search by name in Community Maps.
- Quizzes now have standard images per category added to them.
- Small tweak in gradient opacity on Quiz cards for better readability.
- Added globe image to Map Page and Results Screen for Famous Places and World maps.
- Daily Game now has 1 location with Trivia.
- Players can now add Trivia to Classic Maps and Streaks via the Round Results Page.
Multiplayer
- Published Open Majors and Wildcard 1 schedules.
- Added Steam indicator next to player name in Duels (in-game)
Mobile

- Win Streak is now available for everyone
Bug fixes
- Solved a bug Where Trivia box couldn’t be closed on Chrome on Android phones. Now the trivia box starts closed by default in small screens / devices.
- Corrected “plays / players” counter text in Map Page.
- Fixed avatar size in Round Results Screen.
- Fixed issue with Round Results feedback was showing to everyone, now the animation and feedback is capped at level 25.
- Fixed small autosave issue in Map Maker.
- Fixed bar animation in Round Results that wasn’t triggering after clicking to see the game breakdown.
- Fixed small issue with Collaborators visibility in Map Page.
- Fixed small typo in Map Page.
- Fixed issue with random teammate finder for Team Duels causing a flickering loop
- Fixed issue with random teammate finder for Team Duels causing you to get matched with the same teammate over and over again
- Fixed issue causing a non-selected game mode being applied in Solo Duels matchmaking

Single Player
We recently added location reactions to Classic, Streak and Community Maps. Giving you a way of sharing your perception of the pano with others!
- Pano reactions emoji animation can be turned off in settings.
- Pano reaction wheel is now available on the results screen for Singleplayer games.
- After player feedback we moved the reaction animation to the Results Screen to prevent the emojis -giving “spoilers” on the level.
We have added your 3D animated avatar to Classic Maps page.
- Added auto-saving to Location description in Map-Maker.
- Added text wrapping to Quiz names.
- Location description now shows who submitted that text!
- Renamed Location Notes to Trivia.
- We have implemented a limit of 50 Ongoing Games that are stored per player. The list is ordered by date and all game will expire in 90 days, with the exception that the 4 most recent streaks are always protected, if you reach 50 ongoing games, however, the 90 day storage limit still applies.
Mobile

- World Explorers was released where players can complete levels, and compete with other players to win prizes at the end of the event!
Multiplayer
- Added World Championship Anthem remix challenge, WC trailer and WC Majors promos on World Championship.
- Added Steam indicator in Duels matchmaking.
- Competitive players can now see when they've reached this week's number of full value (weekly) games.
- Game mode is now visible in Solo and Team Duels matchmaking.
- Added button to skip a case in Investigations (e.g. in case of black pano)
- Added support for more currencies on Steam
- Removed redundant achievements on Steam
- Published EMEA Majors schedule
- Added in-game player country flags in Team Duels

Community
When playing Team Duels you now have the ability to ping your location guesses before placing it using CTRL/CMD + clicking.
- When searching for a team mate in Competitive and Casual Team Duels, a notification sound is now played when you have been paired up with a player.
Seterra
- Challenge creators in Seterra can now delete entries from the leaderboard.
- Fixed a bug with entries on challenges showing up multiple times.
Bug Fixes
- Changed filters behaviour in Community Maps to be additive.
- Fixed wrong behaviour with back button in Community Maps.
- Improved search and sorting in Community Maps, when typing for map name.
- Fixed the avatar mask preventing clicking on “Suggested For You” map in Classic Maps.
- Fixed round results minutes calculation mismatching leaderboard and game breakdown.
- Fixed issue causing you to be thrown out of team duel when getting a friend request.
- Fixed issue causing HP in Duels to be incorrectly visualised (visually deducting points from the wrong player/team).
- Fixed issue causing you to be locked in Ranked Team Duels if teammate unfriended you.
- Fixed issue causing Play Again button not showing in Unranked Team Duels.
- Fixed bug causing wrong team rating being displayed in Team Duels matchmaking screen

Lots of new updates and fixes have been happening on GeoGuessr. Here's what the teams have been doing up until 16th May 2025. Enjoy!
Single Player
- We've release a new Community Maps page, with brand new search filters.
We also addressed the Community feedback on things we missed:
- Added verified map icon to cards
- Made the creator’s name clickable
- Increased the size of the like button
- Last played and last updated information now shows on the new Map Page
- Added report map button
Not only that, we have made some improvements to the sorting of Community Quizzes. You can filter based on topics but upvoting or downvoting quizzes will change the what you see on the page.
- After completing a Quiz the continue butto here will now redirect back to the start page for that quiz, as opposed to Spin the Wheel Page.
Last but not least you can now see a Live player count in Community and Classic Maps.
Homepage
We've updated the home page with a brand new look!
This is adapted to your play style and will give you a clearer overview of what matters,
- Quick access to your most recently played games.
- Fresh updates and active events.
- Easy access to those sweet daily coins.
- The new home of the daily mission.
This is a first pass on the new Homepage and you can expect more to follow.
Mobile
We released the APAC Season, in conjunction with the APAC majors. Play through the season to earn a cool hat for your avatar!
Win Streak is also live! Guess correctly and build up your steak to earn bonus points and tickets.
Multiplayer
We released the GeoGuessr Steam Edition.
You can either create a new account through Steam or link your existing GeoGuessr account to bring your level, rank and other progress along. The Steam Editions is in early access, and we plan to add more to this title over time.
Free players can enjoy:

- Unlimited Unranked Team Duels

Community
We have added some new features based on your submissions to the feature request board!
- On a players profile where it shows your friends in common, you can now click to see exactly who those are!
- We have added the ability to see a profile account's creation date.. Simply hover over the player's name to see the date!
Seterra
We have recently added highscores for Custom Challenges. The creator of the challenge can see all scores, the best or first score of players.
We have also added new progression!
It is now possible to gather Medals on certain quizzes on the different Continents on specific quizzes.
Quizzes are based on getting knowledge on a continents:
- Countries
- Flags
- Capitals/Major Cities.
You can now put your knowledge to the test and see if you can get Platinum medal on all the continent quizzes. This is available for both Pin and Type game modes.
Other Seterra changes:
- Updated out-dated quizzes on site including wrong flags etc.
- Added a share button for Custom Challenges under MyResults.
General Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug in Classic where the medals counter was showing 115/114.
- Fixed a small bug of the report button moving out of place on the Map Page
- Fixed how long names are displayed in Community Maps cards
- Now if you are playing community Maps you only get recommended other community maps, not Classic.
Hey gang!
Here's everything that we've been working on in the last couple weeks!
Single Player
- Added a confirmation modal before deleting draft maps.
- Voting and Reporting added to Community Quizzes.
- Keep it fresh with the new Shuffle mode for Classic Maps
From the results screen you either press the play again on your current map or you can press shuffle and let the game give you - at random - the next map to play. At any moment in time you can just un-select shuffle mode and go back to having "play again" as your main action in the results screen!
Multiplayer
- Added "Duels played" info to Investigations
Community
- You can now set your preferred date formatting for leaderboards, subscriptions and Seterra by visiting your account settings
- New Verified tag for Top Searches to address issues with duplicate/copied maps.

- Party up with ease: You can now share a party invite or join a party with QR codes!
- It’s now possible to set and go to checkpoints in Daily Challenges and Classic games.
- Take part in the new event Key Master:When successfully completing a level earn keys depending on how well you do. These keys are used to unlock rewards on the Key Master reward track.
General Bug Fixes
- Fixed duplicated in My Quizzes and Community Quizzes page.
- Fixed publish and save buttons in map editor.
- Long titles are now correctly aligned to the left in Community Maps.

Multiplayer
- The store page for GeoGuessr Steam Edition is now live. Add it your wishlist here!
- Added a "details" button on the Solo Duels main page that gives you an overview of your ratings for all game modes.
- We have removed the separate countdown screen between rounds in Solo Duels, instead the countdown will start over the map of the previous round's result screen.
- We have shortened the Solo Duels round countdown time by 1 second!
- Increased the number of Weekly games for Bronze division in Solo Duels to 20 (from 10), effective week starting March 31st

On March 18, Google will discontinue support for their previous map theme (the ones we currently use) and revert to the default Google Maps theme.
We understand that the default map isn’t ideal for GeoGuessing, so we’ve created our own theme that aims to resemble what's live today.
There will be some differences due to how roads are rendered now; some roads might be slightly easier or harder to see. The opacity will change but there is no setting to adjust this. The new map still uses bitmaps.
We’ll switch to the theme on Monday the 10th of March.
