Thanks everyone for the feedback and suggestions around report notifications. We know it can be frustrating to report someone and then never know whether anything happened, so we've made some improvements here.
You'll now receive a notification when one of your reports has been reviewed and handled. This applies to reports for:
- Cheating
- Inappropriate profile images
- Inappropriate bios
- Inappropriate usernames
- Inappropriate chat messages
We hope this provides better visibility into the reporting process and gives reporters confirmation that their reports are being reviewed.
Thanks again for all the feedback, and please keep it coming—it helps us continue improving our reporting and moderation systems.

Filip , "reviewed
and
handled." What does this improve if you just don't handle it?MDY_WaveBoy
Filip so i think staff should add buttoms to let investigators judge "alter account" since u add account level in the context
Canadagraphs
Filip In the notification, will it state which report (if you have reported several) it was for?

Filip Thank you and the Geoguessr team for all your efforts regarding cheating!
I just reported a player (it was the second time I reported anybody in 450 duels) for googling.
I have two questions:
1) If I see in the review of a round that a player read a small town name, then "parked" just to zoom to this town later on - is this enough to report or should I do additional research in his/her other games?
2) Technical analphabet question: Where do I get and read notifications? I can not find it in the help faq.
Thank you!
MMtracy
CatoGraph , I think I can provide some answers to your questions.
1) When it comes to cheating, it's always best to establish a pattern of behavior. If your opponent camped at a sign in one round, of course it's suspicious, but there could be reasonable explanations. Some examples: brief interruptions from spouse/kids/cat/phone/boss at the wrong time, spotty connection causing blurry/black screen. I would let it go if you cannot find other examples elsewhere. Most cheaters have a pattern, so it's usually not hard to find more evidence.
2) Historically, the notifications have come in the top right side of your screen where you see the patch notes, etc. Right now, the 'GX Geo Gym' thing is in that spot. Notifications state something like, 'Action has been taken against someone you reported for violating the rules, thanks for supporting fair play.' Your Elo is supposed to be refunded for a duel as well, but players have noted some inconsistency there. Also, if you reported multiple people, the notification historically has not specified which report it applies to (canadagraphs asked about this above).
Closing thought: Even if someone you report is 100% obviously cheating, keep your expectations low because the dev response in this thread was nothing new regarding
cheating
(the potential new thing pertains to reports for inappropriateness.) As evidence, note the calendar date and dev response here:and here:

It doesn't look like they care that much. More fun to develop new functionality, like analytics (which is nice), than eliminating cheaters. It is unfathomable to me, why someone would bother playing the Daily Challenge every day, and so obviously cheating it is a bad farce. GeoGuessr claimed they have done something about this, but you can see it is not enough. Today, with a pretty difficult DC, the cheaters stream out of the woodwork, nailing remote locations in seconds. An AI agent could be trained to spot them all, but no, nothing happens.
And why would it be different in Duels, except for the upper echelons? I played someone yesterday, who practically boasted about him cheating. Looking at his games, he cheated in all of them. I understand it takes some time to eliminate such people, but you can just say goodbye to your rating points lost. You won't get it back, there are too many bifurcations, and even if you did, it will impact who you meet in the next games.
It shouldn't be that hard to use an AI to flag bad hombres, and then expedite the analysis of their behaviour.
MMtracy
Heliks , indeed, it is a farce.
twist
They probably weren't near as obvious as you say. Because every "obvious" cheater I reported got a response. It just took 1-2 weeks.
twist
Geo players are actually the biggest babies, hence this post.

GIGAWATT
There's no better way to say to your players 'we don't do anything to handle cheating' than by not giving them any indication that action was taken on someone that is obviously cheating, I already cancelled my subscription and won't be renewing it until this feature is added, I'm sick of losing to people that stare at signs for 10 seconds without moving and have no interest in playing that without knowing they're actually being banned and that I'll receive my elo back if and when they are
jonti_swe 日本語ができる変なスウェーデン人
I got notifications that I was credited back points from rounds where I reported them and they were caught.
Valhalla
I feel like the bigger issue is that cheaters get taken down regularly but the problem is the fact that they are even here and elo can't be recovered as well as winstreak, I feel that elo, winstreak, and more should be restored and I also think that there should be an anti-cheat to prevent hackers from even appearing, this could work by detecting scripts, and edits to gamecode, I am not 100% sure I code but I don't do anti-cheat and anything serious.

Notifications, or Feedbacks from whom I reported, IF they were actually hacking, and they got banned.

I think they do a good job at reviewing cases. I have reported several players (after watching and analysing several replays of ALL rounds not just because they went extremely close on 1 or 2 rounds), the majority have had action taken against them (the ones that have not have obviously been reviewed and found not guilty or insufficient evidence). GG have informed me directly on notifications when action has been taken.
Tpebop
Maybe it's gotten better by now, I haven't been dueling much. I also review other rounds and it is usually so obvious when they are cheating or not. At the time of posting this, I never had received a notification about my reports, but I am 99% sure they were cheating. I'd also want to see if they were voted innocent.
Stutri2du
Tpebop agree... It would be quite simple for a review to say Green(Innocent) Amber(insufficient evidence) Red (Guilty) and sent to reporter of the player
Valhalla
Stutri2du when I report someone the same thing happens in the sense of if there is sufficient evidence it will notify me saying action has been taken, and if not sufficient evidence nothing will happen.
twist
Tpebop They do fine. It just takes a couple weeks and you will indeed get the notification
