Ranked System Rework
Ferra
Here are some ideas to improve the ranking system:
- Add 1 or 2 extra ranks: The first one when you reach top 250/500, and another one when you reach top 100/250. ELO in Champion ranges from around 1200 to 2300, i think that will help a lot for the game balance.
- Remove weekly rankings and bring back seasons (3–4 months long), with a rank reset at the end and seasonal medals or fashions as rewards.
- Remove the average rank and let players have different ranks for each mode. For example, someone could be Champion in No Move, Master in Moving, and Gold in NMPZ.
- Add rank gaps, so when a player reaches a certain ELO, they just rank right away, without waiting for the end of the week or season.
- Add entry requirements for ranked, like a minimum number of singleplayer games or unranked duels. This would make it harder for smurfs and cheaters to create accounts fast.
The goal is to make the ELO system more like other competitive games, such as League of Legends or Counter Strike Faceit.

- Lower ranks the requirement to be first on the ladder is also completely unnecessary and REALLY demotivates people that start of.
- Master - Champion range is insane. Gold is around 600-900. Master alone is like 900-1300, Champion even worse with a total gap of about 1.1k (1.2k - ~2.3k
Add more ranks for this. This is insane, as much as the skillgap between a 1.3k and a 2k player.
Having champion be an exclusive top 500 rank is i think a good idea...
Before that, add some other rank. Lowest Master 2 and Highest Master 1 skill difference is also pretty darn high.

Random idea that came to my mind, instead of rank resett,
just take like 5 elo a week, if inactive.
So u cant sit on your peak, but have to be active to remain on the elo.
Would make the top of leaderboards also more active
I agree with the rest, espacilly an elo cap in divisions / rank gaps. And seperated Rank per Mode,
I would play more Move and NMPZ with split up ranks

I really like #3 idea

Point 1 - I lobbied for another division from them 2 yrs ago at 1400, and got shot down for it with "theres only 6 players over 1400" at the time, and I told them there will be 60 within a year.....it actually turned out there was 100 within a few months..... here we are 2 years later, still no new division.
Part 2 - I loved seasons. But rank reset? No. I'm not grinding to get to
insert Elo here
after months/years, only to have it reset every month.Part 3 - Would be nice to have that.
Part 4 - One of the FEW positives of the current system is, it forces people to play for a while before their ranks go up. The old system had people speed run a new account up to the leaderboard, or 1st in a few days, then abandon the account, start again rinse & repeat. NOW, they have to AT LEAST spend 2 weeks to get the same result, depending what rank they start out at. While it hasnt ended Alts, its severely diminished them (remember when the top 100 was just 84 alts & 16 real players?), as they dont want to start new accounts over & over again knowing they have to invest at least 2 weeks on every account to see their goal of spamming the leaderboard reached. It also prevents cheaters from just popping up on the leader board quickly.
Part 5 - I suggested this back in the day. Problems some pointed out is you can just bot games now, and hit the minimum game requirement in hours. Its sadly no disincentive at all. As for the unranked duels part....if they had single player unranked, I would be open to hearing that as a part of a solution....but theres only team duels for now, and thats forcing people to have to get a friend if they dont want one, just to get the stats required to play comp. Also, the amount of whining I already see from people who are mad they cant play NM/NMPZ games right away because of their rank, you would get that same complaining from people who feel entitled to just play comp on day 1 with no sign they can even identify their own house, let alone another country.
The current system has flaws. But so would every other system anyone has ever recommended, as I just pointed out with some of my replies. I see your account has been around almost 3 years, so you remember the old system.....remember how there was countless people griping about that system too? You will never please everyone.

Canadagraphs Hello! I just saw your message. I recently got back from vacation and had forgotten everything in the meantime 😂
Anyway, I've been playing GeoGuessr on and off since 2019 with other accounts. I've seen most of the ranked systems, and honestly, I won't go back to the old 2022 seasons. The thing is, there's no real incentive to play duels. Once you reach 1600-1700 points, you start facing cheaters and smurfs. You don't gain anything, but stress, and it doesn't lead anywhere because there's no point in climbing the leaderboard.
In some other games, that means a lot. On GeoGuessr, it just leads to accusations of cheating or, if you're actually good, you won't probably get recognized for it. It's similar to Premier in CS2, where if your elo is above 30k, you're most likely considered a cheater. At least in the old seasons, there were trophies to show on your profile, an achievement to aim for.
It was pretty bad, though, you had to play Battle Royale Distance against a bunch of golds. If you lost, you could lose 20-30 elo for not pinpointing Singapore in the final. The only good part was that playing 1v1 duels and BR Countries was usually freelo.
So, I agree with you on most points, especially that a perfect system is nearly impossible to create, but for example the Steam Edition of the game (which is very bad) can be used as a connection between the game and a competitive hub such as Faceit. In that case you can add an anti-cheat in it with a smurf detection system, which is already existing in CS.
Every aspect that we pointed out is not easy to change in no time, but it looks like the community has lost some of its power overtime, because they seem not to care at all in some cases.
