Move the current DC game mode to an introductory game mode for beginners and go back to the DC being actually challenging
complete
fbrasseur
These last three days the Daily Challenge has changed with popups appearing at the end of the round pointing at the clues available in the opening shot, thus transforming the Daily Challenge in something that is very much not challenging for any player bar the absolute beginners.
The idea is good though, but I suggest creating a new game mode exclusively aimed at beginners or players that wants to learn the most basic clues, and decouple it from the Daily Challenge, and make the Challenge actually challenging.

Filip Okay, it is complete, so what does that mean? Have you made a beginners or have not done anything?

Leaving written support for this. We need the old Daily Challenge back. I have a 600+ day streak, it WAS (keyword: was) my favourite thing to do on Geoguessr. I've only ever gotten a 25k once in all that time, and it felt VERY rewarding like it should. I don't even feel like I want to try my hardest on the Daily Challenge now... getting a 25k with the updated beginner-oriented Daily Challenge feels like a cheat. New players should have tips and help, but why make the entire Daily Challenge (for all players) a beginner activity? I'm just one of many who loved the DC and now are having trouble enjoying it. Like someone else said here, part of the fun of moving games is the requirement to find and then put to use, good information. If every DC round starts us off staring at everything we need to determine the country/region we're in... its not very fun. I really think the DC doesn't need to be "curated" or have selected locs as often as it does. Most of us just want to see how we do against everyone in the world on the same 5 locations.
I had to stop the daily challenge halfway through today, to write this. Round 2 of the Jan 28, 2026 DC was a fantastic example of what a not fun round is. Without even moving a step I can pinpoint where I am? I'm not a geoguessr master (in the literal sense, i guess i'm technically in "Master") and I don't want to be able to regularly have enough info to 5k a DC round without moving. Please, please take the beginner oriented mode somewhere separate, and don't sacrifice your players who have played the DC for years to make it easier for beginners :( I've been here since before you had to pay for a sub, and I've always loved the DC, until now :( pls bring back the DC we know and love

Today a 22.3k was enough to be in the 50th percentile - seems a little too easy, considering that score was achievable with very minimal effort

Could do with more of a challenge

I agree. I only play daily challenges with a friend and this has destroyed the fun I was getting out of the game.
Daniel McSweeney
Agreed this is absolutely killing any joy in the DC - please make it stop!

New Daily Challenge Too Easy
Princess of Palawan
In late Jan 2026, Geoguessr has completely changed the Daily Challenge to a much easier beginner's level challenge. This is very disappointing to us who have been playing the challenge for years and appreciate that it can be challenging at times. Now, you are being plonked in the middle of a massive city, with info immediately available, and it seems as though they are trying to teach you obvious metas for beginners. Petition to bring back the previous format, or to make the challenge actually challenging.

New Daily Challenge is Bad

This used to be one of my favourite things to do on Geoguessr. It is way too easy now, and I'd rather the meta learning be on something like plonk it/learnable meta (or its own game mode).

Why have you ruined the Daily Challenge?

I'm considering cancelling my subscription. The Daily Challenge is awful now. It feels like a mode for new players to practice and there are already a bunch of those. Please revert it.

Just seconding this. My family just this new year started playing the DC all together after I was gifted a membership. It had just become a habit for us and a fun challenge that brought us together, and now it's no longer enjoyable and our interest is waning. PLEASE bring back the original DC and consign the clue feature to an easier version for beginners.
Juliette
Just to add, I've got 578 day daily challenge streak and it was something that I enjoyed each day and kept me coming back to the site every day. All my family did and it we discussed it at dinner each evening.
I actually considered not doing the daily challenge for the first time ever today - and I'm somebody who has done it from my mobile in hotel rooms etc.
The last few days for the most of the rounds, the city (or a sign to a well-known city) has been obvious at spawn or very close to it, and it's become a 'can you pinpoint in this big city' challenge. I don't mind the occasional round like that, but it just isn't fun when it is virtually every round. The Peru round was probably the only fun round the last couple of days.
I wouldn't mind so much if there was a NM option and the spawns were locations where some detective work might get you close as I could do that instead.
I get wanting to make it more beginner-friendly, but even for beginners, you don't want it to be just a 'do you know this city is?' quiz. It would be nice to be able to somehow use the DC to introduce Geoguessr to my friends (it's very hard to do so when it's so confusing what is paywalled!) and perhaps a combination of NM/Moving is a way that could be possible.
Edit: I also wanted to add that I started doing the DC as a beginner and it was partly how I got into playing and it was nice seeing how I gradually got better. The only thing that was frustrating as a beginner I recall was 'you know it or you don't' trekker rounds with no info.

Juliette as someone who is on a 450+ day streak, I feel the same as you. I am going to break my streak on Feb 1 if they don't revert it back to what it was, honestly don't even enjoy playing anymore. I just can't understand why they would suddenly completely change a challenge that 10-20k people play every day.
fbrasseur
Juliette I agree 100%, I love the GeoDetective maps and love doing them NM, but not for the Daily Challenge and a timer! Those should be two completely different game modes.
Juliette
fbrasseur You're right - it wouldn't work with a timer. Part of the fun of the Daily Challenge is the decision-making involved in moving, but at the same time knowing that you have the three minutes (which is different from the decision-making in moving duels where the opponent could guess at any point).
fbrasseur
Juliette Yeah, also one of the most underrated skills of a moving player is knowing what info is useful and where to find it, and what sign can be quickly discarded for being completely useless. Having all the clues directly at spawn makes this knowledge completely useless.
Chorch_Seeker
fbrasseur - I agree with this statement, which is one of the reasons I am a terrible moving player. I play the DC as No Moving, but a lot of the fun is removed when I am not having to work to figure things out. I don't always get 20k+ points, but the occasional great guess is a really nice feeling. When the round has everything handed to you on a silver platter, there is no sense of accomplishment, and worse, if you screw up, you feel stupid for having missed the city name on the map while you were scanning.
I'm not planning on breaking my streak, I'm currently at 755 days and have uploaded YouTube videos of the Daily Challenge every single day for over two years now. It's a big part of my life (Even if it only takes up 15-30 minutes every morning.) That just makes it even more of a hit when it gets changed to EasyGuessr, though.
Chorch_Seeker
Juliette - I think a GeoDetective-type round with a timer is fine as a daily challenge, just not THE Daily Challenge.
I also don't think that any part of the fun in the Daily Challenge is related to moving, since I have recorded (over 1000) and uploaded (almost 900) videos of doing the Daily Challenge over the years, and I don't play it as moving.
However, I also don't want to play GeoDetective for the Daily Challenge, because I am trying to challenge myself and feel good when I get a really nice score, finding some of the tiniest clues. One of my favorite recent guesses, from a couple of months ago, was a round in Le Mans where I zoomed into a storm drain and saw "Ville Du Mans" and was able to 5k a random tiny road with a bike path next to the river.
Juliette
Chorch_Seeker I can definitely imagine that doing it NM can be fun. and that drain clue is great. I actually got the impression that for some of the curated rounds this year that there was an intentional tiny clue at spawn for NM players. I even started looking around very carefully at spawn each round just in case! (I play both Moving and NM generally, but I usually move for the DC unless I am travelling).
I don't think the last few days could have been that fun for NM players either though!
