Custom key bindings
complete
Smurf
A great addition to the game either you're trying to solo speedrun or playing duels would be to have custom keybindings for every possible action. A simple addition to the menu allowing you to map UNDO MOVE, SET CHECKPOINT, RETURN TO START or the FAST TRAVEL KEY to any other binding (both keyboard and mouse) would be a huge improvement.

We have now added custom key bindings with some caveats that some keys are not possible to rebind (arrow keys for instance since they messed things up a bit and are in Google territory).
However if there are other suggestions (for instance Chat keybind etc) feel free to upvote that request separately :)

I don't know why my BUG REPORT became a feature request, because an UI designed in a way that leads constantly to false inputs is broken and needs to be repaired ....
Also you hide my request by attaching it to a text that doesn't contain the important word SPACE.
It surely would be upvoted much more if you really MERGE the texts and not attach it to another text to remove the possibility for searching.
I agree to smurf. Just make it possible to configure you own keys solves the issue and additionally it is not disturbing players who got used to the current mess.
Sorry for my harsh tone. I am German, we state critics clear and direct. Even on things we love, like your brilliant game.

Hold shift to move quickly
James (DeskBollards)
Hi, I recently made a script - I have tagged it such that users know it could technically gain advantage to the user using it (so not to use it online or on leaderboards), although mainly it's to assist with some of the annoyance with the 'fastmove' space bar bug / exploit.
If you've ever used that well known exploit, you'll know it has a couple drawbacks. 'Space' confirms a guess, this is a properly irritating clash for obvious reasons. Also if you hit a disturbance in the pano chain it will send you flying backwards for miles before you can correct for it.
The script proves that it's possible for you guys to add a similar feature, I for example used user direction facing and the 'shift' key which is a common sprint key in games so would be easy to learn for players.
I reckon you could improve the feature in many ways (better rubber banding avoidance, maybe scroll to choose speed?? etc), but the script proves that the base concept of speed moving is possible to purposefully implement.
Let me know what you think

Fast Moving Hotkey double allocation
Major Bajor
Currently, both keys for fast moving (space and enter) have other functions.
This leads to very unfortunate effects, for example, after you place a pin down, you can't fast move with space anymore.
And enter is also allocated with opening the chat, so if you play a party or a team duel, you can't fast-move at all without turning off chat.
This can be fixed very easily, by changing the hotkeys.

UI Broken on Browser Version (key does multiple things and leads to false inputs)
MagicBonsai
As a software developer myself I consider this as a bug, not an inconvenience or feature request as the design actively forces false inputs.
Space key for fast travel is nut usable, as it submits guesses. In only around 500 games it happened to me at least 10 times. That's 2% screwed up games! Once I missed a bridge in Verona I recognized because I was there in RL, by more than 50 km.
Once I even missed even the continent as rainforest looks quite similar around the globe.
very often I was already in country, but then the false submit placed me far off what I already found.
Enter key is useless too, as it interacts with the chat.
I suggest to make the keys at least configurable. Like this you would prevent users need to change their behavior if they actually use the space bar to submit. (I never used space for this, except for this buggy design forced it.)

Map Size Keybind
朋友是一个坚韧不拔的纪录片, 在香港这座城市的设置。
Can you add a keybind to make the map bigger/smaller? sometimes I want it bigger other times i want it smaller but i don't want to click it manually every time. Thanks. Also, you should allow custom keybind assigning for this and for everything in general (such as finding N on the keyboard being a pain every time).

I'd like to add to this, with the new emotes, might as well allow the wheel to go up to 9 or 10 (or all of em with + - * ect. some of us got keyboards with number keys and they might as well all be in use allowing more in game emotes. Having a hard time putting the new ones on my wheel when I've already gotten accustomed to using the others for specific situations and don't want to loose them.

Customizable keybindings
abrevalf
I would like to suggest adding fully customizable keybindings to GeoGuessr (for example: changing the key used to confirm a guess, replacing Space with another key, etc.). This is not only a convenience feature, but also an accessibility issue, once many players have physical limitations, injuries, disabilities, alternative keyboard layouts, or use specialized input devices that can make certain default keybindings difficult or impossible to use comfortably.
Without the ability to remap controls, some players may be unintentionally excluded from enjoying the game on equal terms. Customizable keybindings are a standard accessibility feature in many modern games and help make the experience more inclusive without affecting gameplay balance.
I believe this would be a relatively small addition with a meaningful positive impact on accessibility and player experience.

"Space button + moving" ends rounds
abrevalf
If I pin a location (and I'm not done with my guess), whenever I use the SPACE button + Left Click button to move faster through vias, it would confirm my guess and move shortly to the next round. I can't even see the result from former rounds. This issue has already spoiled many of my plays, and it's just awful when it happens.

Option to change Submit keyboard shortcut away from Space Bar (it's the same as the navigation)
C
Chaz W
Currently, if you place a pin on the map, Space bar submits that pin even if you intended to continue navigating the map. The two actions should not have the same keyboard shortcut. This is a pretty logical stance.
Steps to reproduce:
- Place a pin on the map
- Press an arrow on the Street View, which enables space bar for navigation
- Press space bar (or hold it for repeated navigation)
- As soon as you release space bar, the existing pin will submit
It's really annoying that Spacebar is currently used for two different keyboard shortcut actions, and both can be triggered at the same time. There is no situation where a user intends to perform both actions simultaneously, so the game should not perform both actions. It should either 1) know which action to take, and take the correct one, or 2) not use spacebar for both actions to begin with.
