Browser tab crashes due to memory usage

On MacOS (Safari), I noticed that the geoguessr tab uses around 1GB of RAM when I start playing. As I play more rounds, (single player classic/community maps), the tab's memory usage starts creeping up by around 0.5GB per round. Once the tab starts using more than 9GB of RAM, the tab crashes and the browser reloads the page with a message that the site was reloaded due to high memory usage.
There seems to be a serious memory leak. I thought it could possible be due to my state streak / learnable meta extensions, so I checked again after disabling everything including tampermonkey. The issue is still present after disabling the extensions. I checked firefox as well, but the memory usage on firefox is stable at around 2GB. I think it is a recent bug, as I've never had geoguessr tabs crashing on me with this frequency before this week (2025-Oct-14).

The issue is not fully solved yet, but I came across an article that could possibly explain this. See: https://www.macobserver.com/news/safari-26-bug-turns-routine-browsing-into-a-memory-nightmare/
So this might not be Geoguessr specific but rather a Safari 26.0 issue.
In addition, I tried the troubleshooting steps but that doesn't seem to have made much of a difference. But after a full system restart, the issue doesn't seem to be as severe as when I initially reported the issue. The tab memory usage on Safari (6-7 GB) is still very high compared to Firefox (1-2 GB), but it seems to be stable around these values (as opposed to creeping up to 9-10 GB and then crashing).

NotACat: Thanks for the update - have passed it along to the team so they can continue to investigate it, but as you say if it may be a safari issue then there might not be anything we can do.
